Will CWG Games prove to be another sex haven for escorts!

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

IN WHAT is seen as a brazen form of sex tourism in the milieu of the cosmopolitan Commonwealth Games, the national capital has geared up for profligacy, thanks to the number of escort agencies running in full flow.

Parallel to all such widespread international events, especially games, like FIFA and Olympics, an equally broad-based web of upscale flesh trade is known to run. And the Delhi CWG Games are no exception. Reportedly thousands of escorts, have been roped in by flesh trade outfits that are run surreptitiously. Many of the girls brought to Delhi for such illegal operations are from foreign nations.

And as per reports, escorts from countries, particularly European ones like Britain, Poland, and Germany along with nations like Turkey and Afghanistan will work in Delhi until the Games are over. Outsourcing of sex jobs to Delhi at a time when the maximum foreign tourists are expected here is seen to be lucrative enough for foreign escort agencies including those in Russia.

The Commonwealth Games are there for a fortnight and will likely bring in combined profits to the tune of millions. Already mired in controversies, the CWG games can ill afford another one. But this is an open secret, party to which are rich brokers who are purportedly unnerved by authorities as they find dormant backing from police in return for money. So, a hullabaloo is improbable. During the Olympics in Beijing the government adopted the protection methods to avoid AIDS as stopping the trade was not doable.

The escorts are brought from foreign lands in the garb of overseas tourists on temporary visas. The business is for the elite and runs in posh star hotels. Since the escorts masquerade as tourists, it is not easy to crack down without proof of wrongdoing. At the same time, raiding star hotels on the basis of suspicion is hardly an option even as everything appears normal.

A private channel had unearthed some of these transgressions in an investigative story but little follow-up action is known to be taken by Delhi Police.
